child slavery
Due to unimaginable circumstance there are 284,000 child slaves on the Cocoa plantations on the West Coast of Africa.
"I was reading the 2007 Trafficking in Persons report and it hit me. I can eat chocolate every day because it is so cheap, but suddenly the "price" was measured in the bruises and scars of voiceless children. One child's picture showed the scars on the soles of his feet, evidence of his master's punishment designed to teach him not to run away again."
"It seemed hopeless; I couldn't do anything from the other side of the world. But I could VOTE AT THE CASH REGISTER; I could buy chocolate that I knew was made without slave labor. I could by Fair Trade Certified."
